Fully Digital Amplifier

In Steinway Lyngdorf amplifiers, signal processing is handled 100% in the digital domain. Featuring the world’s most advanced technology, as well as uncompromised component quality, the fully digital amplifiers are open-loop amplifiers with zero negative feedback. Therefore, only the most precise, durable and linear components are used. The amplifiers are optimized for musical and cinematic performances with an impressive Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 113 dB – the highest performance of any amplifier on the market today.
The output resolutions are kept at 24-bit when operated at most typical listening levels. Within this range, regulation is carried out purely by adjusting the supply voltage to the amplifier output stage. Essentially, the Steinway Lyngdorf amplifiers can be regarded as extreme ‘Power DACs’ (Digital-to-Analog Converters) capable of driving the speakers directly. In a conventional system you need a D/A converter, a preamplifier, a DSP/equalizer and a power amplifier. This complicated and long signal path contains multiple sound degrading ‘interfaces’ such as signal conversion, attenuation and several analog components that will degrade over time. Also, the traditional analog signal handling offers huge potential for noise induction. A Steinway Lyngdorf system is totally noise immune and all the traditional devices in the signal path are replaced by one single product – our ‘Power DAC’. This unique and technically extremely demanding solution ensures unsurpassed control, without noise at any sound levels.
